The surgeries

Every visit

Floors, benches, cabinetry fronts, sinks, taps, dispensers, handles, switches and sills. Bins emptied and relined. We work to the clean and contaminated zones your practice has set. Colour coded microfibre, HEPA filtered vacuums, no brooms in clinical areas.

The sterilisation room

The room, not the process

Floors, walls, bench fronts, handles and bins. Instruments, packs, the ultrasonic and the autoclave are not touched.

The rest of the practice

Every visit

Reception, waiting, staff room, bathrooms, glass and floors. Screens and keyboards with electronics wipes. Frequencies in the schedule.

What stays with your practice

  • Between patient cleaning of the contaminated zone and anything that enters the mouth.
  • Barriers on light handles, x-ray heads, triplex controls, handpiece tubing, cameras and curing lights.
  • Instrument reprocessing of every kind: the ultrasonic, the washer disinfector, the autoclave, packing, batch records and validation. That sits under AS 5369:2023 and is never the cleaner's job.
  • Waterlines, suction lines and traps, per the chair manufacturer's instructions.
  • Clinical and sharps waste, which stay with your licensed contractor.

What you get for accreditation

  • A room by room schedule with the surface, the frequency and the product.
  • A log signed at every visit. That is our practice, not an ADA requirement.
  • A product list with ARTG numbers and safety data sheets, and an induction record for every person who attends.

Private dental accredits to the NSQPCH Standards through QIP and the ADA, voluntarily, since 1 May 2024. Those documents are evidence a practice can use for Action 3.09.

Questions practices ask

Do you clean between patients?

No. Working surfaces in the contaminated zone are wiped after every patient by your clinical team. We do the scheduled clean, outside consulting hours.

Do you handle reprocessing or sterilisation?

No. Reprocessing sits under AS 5369:2023 and stays with the practice. We clean the room, not the process.

Does the ADA certify cleaners?

There is no such thing. The Australian Dental Association publishes infection prevention and control guidelines for practitioners. It does not certify cleaners. Responsibility for infection control rests with the registered practitioner.

What do you use in a surgery?

Neutral detergent for environmental cleaning, and a hospital grade disinfectant listed in the ARTG where your risk assessment calls for one. Chair upholstery follows the chair instructions for use. Full list in our infection control guide.
